Very popular Thai restaurant and highly recommend to visit if you are in Thailand. Giving an 80’ vibes. Band starts at 18:30 for dinner singing Thai/English oldies. Could be packed during dinner time but we can always find a table. Food tastes exceptional. We love it here.

I visit Thailand often when I take trip to my birth country Vietnam where I was born since it is close by. And when I visit Bangkok I try to have one meal here. My first visit here I went with my girlfriend at the time on may 2023 and we both agreed it has some of the best authentic Thai dishes we had. We were trying different places to eat and this at the time had one Michelin star and we visited a few other places on the Michelin list at that time in Bangkok and this was both our favorite in term of taste. The flavor was very memorable and it was a fantastic meal overall. So I was surprised it was downgraded to recommend the year after by Michelin list but I still visited this restaurant again in my trip the year after as opposed to the few other not as memorable Michelin star establishment in Bangkok that I did not take a detour for another visit. The taste remains true. Granted I only visited Thailand about 6 times so far and eat at about few dozen restaurant in Bangkok so my knowledge of restaurants in Bangkok may be limited but this is one of my favorite restaurant there and I would definitely visit it again when I travel to Bangkok regardless of what the Michelin guide said as long as the quality pf the food here remain the same.

Amazing décor — grand, elegant, and full of old-school charm. The service was truly top-notch, warm, and professional from the moment we arrived. We came here to celebrate my 40th birthday, and it was the perfect choice. Made reservation in advanced The food is as authentic as it gets, beautifully cooked and full of flavour. The live band and singer added so much to the atmosphere — such a great vibe throughout the night. Highly recommend. Check out the pictures!

The flavours were amazing and blends so well together within each dish. Ingredients used were fresh too. While the plating and ambience was not the same as what one would expect of a typical one star Michelin restaurant, the flavours and the warm response of the staff made up for it. Definitely worth a try!

This is one of my favorite restaurants, and I always recommend it to friends, clients, or any foreigners who want to try authentic Thai cuisine. It’s one of the few places that still serves traditional dishes like Kratong Thong, Mee Krob Chao Wang, Moo Krajok, and Por Pia Tod a great starter set that lets you sample a variety of flavors at a very reasonable price. The ambiance is classic and elegant, almost like stepping back into a Suntaraporn-era Thailand, with live piano music and traditional Thai singers performing classic Luk Krung songs while you enjoy your meal. It adds a nostalgic and sophisticated touch to the dining experience. Today, I ordered some of my favorite dishes. The Green Curry was a hit, mild enough for foreigners to enjoy while still keeping the authentic Thai flavors. The Gaeng Kua Pu Cha-Om (Crab Curry with Acacia Omelet) was rich and flavorful, and the Tom Kha Gai (Coconut Chicken Soup) was another must-try dish. If you’re looking for something special, the Yam Sam Grob (Three Crispy Flavors Salad) is a standout, offering a perfect balance of sweet, sour, and spicy. This restaurant is a true gem, perfect for introducing foreign visitors to traditional Thai cuisine in a setting that feels both nostalgic and elegant. Highly recommended!

Methavalai Sorndaeng Restaurant: A Taste of Royal Thai Heritage ???????? For those who cherish authentic, traditional Thai cuisine and seek the charm of a bygone era, you must visit "Methavalai Sorndaeng." Located centrally on Ratchadamnoen Klang Road, this restaurant is more than just a place to eat—it’s a living museum of flavors that masterfully preserves rare, ancient Thai recipes. Michelin-Recognized Excellence Methavalai Sorndaeng has been consistently recognized by the prestigious Michelin Guide for its unwavering dedication to quality and tradition. It has been a featured restaurant in the guide, notably receiving the MICHELIN Selected designation for its superb, authentic Thai cooking. Must-Try Signature Dishes * Khanom Jeen Sao Nam: This dish stands out as a true culinary rarity! A truly hard-to-find ancient recipe executed perfectly here. The thin rice noodles are served in a rich, flavorful sauce with grated pineapple, minced fish balls, chili, ginger, and lime, offering a balanced taste of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy. * Yum Som-O (Pomelo Salad): The juicy pomelo segments are tossed with a tangy dressing and your choice of ingredients, often topped with crispy fried shallots, delivering a refreshing and harmonious blend of flavors. * Pla Duk Fu Pad Prik Khing (Crispy Catfish Flakes Stir-fried with Red Curry Paste): A classic done right. The aromatic red curry paste is intensely flavored, stir-fried with crispy catfish flakes and yard-long beans, making it a perfect complement to steamed rice. * Massaman Neua (Massaman Curry with Beef): The curry boasts a rich, fragrant, and mildly sweet flavor profile, with tender, melt-in-your-mouth beef. * Som Tum Kor Moo Yang (Spicy Papaya Salad with Grilled Pork Neck): A popular dish with a spicy kick, pairing perfectly grilled, tender pork neck with a zesty papaya salad. Perfect Desserts * Mango Sticky Rice (Khao Niao Ma Muang): The exceptional news is that this dessert is available all year round here! Sweet, fragrant sticky rice is served with rich coconut cream and slices of ripe, golden mango. * Saku Cantaloupe (Cantaloupe Sago): A delightful cold dessert featuring soft sago in sweet, fragrant coconut milk and topped with refreshing cantaloupe. Ambiance and Service The restaurant has recently undergone a beautiful renovation, resulting in a clean yet still wonderfully classic interior that evokes the royal court style of Thai dining. Crucially, the tradition of live musicians remains, performing beautiful, nostalgic songs during both lunch and dinner services. It’s a warm, refined atmosphere perfect for family gatherings or hosting special guests. History of "Methavalai Sorndaeng" This restaurant's history is a truly remarkable one, stretching back over half a century. * The Origin: The restaurant originally opened as "Sorndaeng" in 1957 (B.E. 2500), meaning it has been serving customers for over 60 years. * The Transition: Following the Black May events in 1992, the original owner transferred the business to the mother of Chef Jirawut Subkeeree. The restaurant underwent a major renovation and was officially renamed "Methavalai Sorndaeng" in March 1993. * Legacy: Despite the changes, the commitment to the original, authentic Thai recipes has been consistently maintained, allowing it to become recognized as a staple of royal-style Thai cuisine.
